We are now seeking a Petroleum Geochemist to be based at our offices/laboratories in Trondheim, Norway. The position will report to the Senior Geochemist and Managing Director.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Be involved in interpretation and reporting for routine well studies and larger regional studies.
  • Evaluation and handling of different sample types i.e. well cuttings, swc, cores, outcrops and surface sediments as well as oils and gases.   
  • Be able to partake in onshore and offshore fieldwork for surface geochemical sampling, and partaking in the interpretation and reporting of the analyses from these.
  • Responsibility for the application of petroleum geochemistry in a range of exploration and production activities. 
  • Provide expert skills (scientific and project management) within the area of Geochemistry and Petroleum Systems Analysis.
  • Provide assessments for source rock and oil characteristics, distribution and maturity, oil-oil and oil-source rock correlations in routine well, multi-well and reservoir geochemistry studies. Particularly, important is the ability to assess geochemical data quality.
  • Participate on multi-disciplinary teams in new ventures with other Fugro Opcos.
  • Assist with marketing and business development. Coach and mentor non-specialists.
  • Provide project deliverables (analytical data and interpretation) to clients through written communications and presentations.
  • Actively present papers/posters at key scientific and industry meetings/conferences.

Qualifications and desired knowlegde:
  • BSc. Geology degree or equivalent, MSc. Petroleum Geochemistry degree or similar
  • Experience in petroleum geochemistry studies, of value would be knowledge of the common analytical techniques used in petroleum geochemistry. Laboratory experience would be advantageous.
  • Organic Geochemistry of oils, gases and sediments.
  • Kinetics and petroleum generation/expulsion.
  • Geological skills in Petroleum Systems Analysis
  • Tectonic-thermal history of sedimentary basins.
  • Solid geological foundation.
  • Depositional models of sedimentary organic matter.
  • Basin hydrodynamics, fluid flow, pressure, PVT analysis
  • Fluency in both oral and written English (an eye for detail is essential for effective communication with internal and external customers).
  • Experience in Microsoft Office

  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills at all levels of contact with the ability to network
  • Must be sufficiently fit and prepared to travel internationally, particularly for surface geochemistry projects which will involve sampling offshore and for marketing and project presentations in clients offices.
