New Oil and Gas Job: Development Geologist


Position Summary
The Development Geologist will lead reservoir evaluation, characterisation and modelling across all the BG Norge operated development projects, with initial responsibility towards pre- and post-sanction activities at the Gaupe and Bream Fields. In addition, the successful candidate will be a key point of contact for all geological input to concept selection, project sanction, well planning and production drilling phases in BG Norge.

Key Accountabilities
The Development Geologist reports to the subsurface team leaders for each development/pre-sanction project. Peers within the project teams include the geophysicist, reservoir engineer and production technologist, in addition to other shared resources within the BG Norge office and Group headquarters (UK).

As Development Geologist your key accountabilities will include:
  • Act as geological focal point within the projects. Provide expert advice on development geology to asset team and provide first line QA/QC for all geological work within developments.
  • Plan and follow-up all geological internal and external studies.
  • Plan for development wells and build a data acquisition strategy.
  • Ensure effective integration of geological workflow with other disciplines within the subsurface development teams.
  • Give inputs to field development plans.
  • Present results to licence partners and work to obtain approval for proposed work programmes.
  • Ensure technical delivery is consistent with BG Group guidelines, procedures and within the BG Group value assurance framework.
  • Be responsible for implementing, maintaining and improving geological functional excellence across asset projects.
  • Plan and execute geological studies and operations to the highest safety standards.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced geology staff.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
The successful candidate for the position of Development Geologist will have:
  • Extensive experience delivering development geology projects in operated licences
  • Broad subsurface background and demonstrated understanding of the field development life cycle in the BG way
  • Extensive experience in reservoir characterisation and uncertainty modelling
  • Knowledge of Petrel is preferred
  • Experience with pre-sanction field development planning would be of benefit, as would hands-on experience from development of Field Development Plans
  • Understanding and willingness to work with, and learn from, other technical disciplines, such as Well Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, Geophysics, etc.
  • The ability to work tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work both stand alone and as an integrated team member.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • The ability to cultivate internal and external professional networks
