Chair in Petroleum Engineering

Based within the School of Engineering, you will be an exceptional individual able to provide academic leadership in the development of Petroleum Engineering research and teaching at the University of Aberdeen. This is a unique opportunity to develop world-class research in a research-led university located at the centre of the North Sea's oil and gas industry, and to shape and lead a new Petroleum Engineering undergraduate degree programme.

The Chair in Petroleum Engineering is one of many new posts supporting the School of Engineering's major expansion in energy-related disciplines, including new chair appointments in Chemical Engineering, Subsea Engineering and Safety & Reliability Engineering. The School of Engineering has extensive links with the energy industry and excellent opportunities exist for collaborative research with industry and with colleagues across the College of Physical Sciences, especially Petroleum Geology. You will join a research-intensive General Engineering School, which had 83% of its research output ranked as world leading or internationally excellent in the 2008 UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008).

You must have excellent leadership and communication skills and an outstanding record of achievement based on work done in industry and/or academia. You will be able to point to significant indicators of esteem, have active links with research and industry groups' worldwide and well-developed plans for attracting external funding and growing a major research group within the School of Engineering.
